Improving Care Through Neuroimmune Science

Complex disorders don’t happen in isolation and neither should research.

Complex disorders do not arise from a single system, and research should not treat them that way.

Patients often experience overlapping dysfunction across multiple biological systems at once. CODA studies how these systems interact within the same patient to shape disease.

At CODA, our research is built on the understanding that multi-system disorders require a multi-system lens. We need to look at the entire patient, understand their biology and find the right treatments for each individual. With that in mind, we examined the research landscape to identify 5 core biological areas that impact patients.  We identified the best scientists working in each of these areas. We are now launching studies focused on treatments and improving patient outcomes.

LANDMARK INITIATIVES. STRONGER PATIENT GROUPS FOR TARGETED TREATMENTS.

Patients are different - patient by patient and even within the same patient over time. The most important thing we can do as we’re developing treatments is to start grouping patients by their biologies. 

In our overarching, larger initiatives, CODA has established AI-driven technology and worked with partners in the technology field to  identify patterns that define distinct patient subtypes and connects those subtypes to targeted therapeutic strategies. This approach allows complex, overlapping biology to be translated into more precise and actionable care.

CODA Craniocervical Dysfunction Initiative (CODA CCD)

Seeking Funding.

CODA CCD investigates altered neuroimmune signaling at the craniocervical junction contributes to the initiation and progression of complex disorders. Structural factors in this region may heighten these neuroimmune shifts. This initiative offers a unique human model for studying and understanding CODA’s five core research areas.

Multiomics Studies

Sequence ME & Long COVID

Funded and In Progress.

CODA is a proud funding partner of Sequence ME and Long Covid, the world's largest long-read, whole-genome sequencing study of any disease. Led by Action for ME in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and Oxford Nanopore Technologies, this study will analyze the complete genetic code of 9,000 people with ME and 9,000 people with Long Covid to identify rare and structural genetic changes that may underlie these conditions.

MELO Study

Funded and Completed.

CODA partnered with Chronicle Bio and PrecisionLife to launch the MELO Study, focused on identifying biomarkers linked to Long COVID and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. These insights help uncover underlying biology, risk factors, and symptom drivers, highlighting key areas for deeper investigation.

Returning results to participants was a core priority, offering meaningful insight into the research process and the impact of patient participation. This work has the potential to advance targeted studies, improve diagnostics, and accelerate the development of effective treatments.

CODA Fellowships

Building the next generation of neuroimmune research

CODA’s fellowship programs support researchers working across domains to advance subtyping, integrate data, and connect biological insight to therapeutic strategy. These efforts expand CODA’s research capacity while accelerating progress toward more precise and effective treatment approaches.
